Hellebores

We hand pollinate all our own Hellebores, and as a result we have produced double and anemone flowers.

There are many variations in colour and patterns.

As Hellebore flowers naturally hang downwards, one of our breeding aims, is to improve the appearance of the petals outside colour and form.

To see some of the improvements of our breeding programme, it can take a minimum of 3 years, to see the results.

Hellebores are suitable for a shady spot, under the canopy of trees and shrubs. They like most soils, but if planted on a sandy soil, compost must be added at planting time, and during autumn in subsequent years.

Not much aftercare is required, except in late Autumn/Winter, when you are able to see new shoots beginning to appear, it is best to cut back the old rough leaves.

Because of the nodding habit of Hellebores, it is a good idea to plant the Hellebores, perhaps on a slope, or on a terrace where you are able to look up at the flowers.
